    Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The communities for which health care organizations operate are rapidly diversifying. Not only do they provide care for a diverse community of patients and families, but their workforce is also changing, and at times does not reflect the patient community. The business implications and imperatives health care organizations face concerning diversity, equity, and inclusion are immense. Diverse communities often require different care needs, improved quality, new or modified operational processes and services, and strategic planning for a varied patient demographic. It is incumbent on health care organizations and their leaders to both understand and embrace the needs of diverse populations. Leader’s abilities to respond to the needs and preferences of a broader customer base will be critical to their financial and operational success.

    • Moderator: Hester Agudosi, Founder/ CEO of E2 Equitable Ecosystems LLC
    • Jose Ferrua, MBA, CEO – Journey of Life Healthcare
    • Julian Slocum, Central Texas Veterans Health Care System

  • Program 2 – 10-11:30 a.m.
Improving the Health Status of Your Community
Health care organizations exist to serve the communities in which they reside. Though community health has always been a focus for these organizations, new regulations require them to take an active role. The health of a community or geographic population has a critical impact on a health care organization’s planning, operations, financial sustainability, outcomes and success. Due to the implementation of the key components of the health care reform by legislation, it will be even more important that provider organizations are both aware of and responsive to the health status and disease states that are most prevalent in their communities. Not only is a population-based focus the right thing to do, but it may prove to be the financially astute course of action.

Speakers:

    • Moderator: Sarah Churchill Llamas, healthcare attorney
    • Jon Calvin, FACHE, CPA, CMA, CHFP, chief executive officer, Lone Star Circle of Care
    • Thomas Wm. Jackson, FACHE, chief executive officer, St. David’s North Austin Medical Center
