First of all, let me say how honored I am to serve as your chapter president for 2022.

After serving as president of the North Texas ACHE Chapter in 2018, I thought that I was done but I couldn’t resist the call to serve one more time as I thoroughly enjoy the work of ACHE.  I was called to healthcare over 30years ago and serving with other healthcare leaders never gets old.

The last two years have impacted all of us professionally and personally, just as it has our Central Texas Chapter.  Anita Soares and Kim Denney did amazing work as our past two presidents during the pandemic and I salute their efforts!  In 2022, ACHE of Central Texas will continue its return to ‘normal’ (whatever that is) by implementing changes in the bylaws and by reengaging with our members.

Our bylaws were amended to reflect a shift to a governance model to allow for more participation by members as committee chairs rather than as completely hands-on board members.  Terms on the Board are now three years (we’ll be easing into that) to provide continuity of leadership, with an emphasis on geographic spread, organizational type, and ACHE commitment.  We also have created a dedicated Board seat for one of our university program directors so that we can better engage the students of the three graduate healthcare programs within our boundaries.

The Nominating Committee going forward will focus on members who have advanced to Fellow, which also puts responsibility back on the Board to assist with advancement opportunities.  We currently have over 130 members who are eligible to advance and your Board is committed to helping those attain their Fellow.  We can’t do that without educational events and your Board’s goal is to provide quarterly face-to-face opportunities to gain hours.  (Side note: Make sure that you register for our ACHECTX symposium at Baylor University on February 11th to pick up hours.)

Of course, we will ramp up our networking and offer events throughout our area in all directions.  Waco, Austin, San Marcos…we’re coming to you and anywhere else where ACHE members want to gather.  The plan is to gather together next November for our General Membership Dinner where we will celebrate, network, and hear from a great speaker that you won’t want to miss!

I know that you’re wondering how to get involved with this renewed Chapter effort.  Glad you asked!  We need your time and talents on just one event!  Think about the impact if everyone did that.  The Board is also putting a greater emphasis on garnering sponsors for our Chapter and events (‘There if is!’) so we would appreciate your consideration.  Quality programming does take money!

Again, thanks for allowing me the privilege of serving you during 2022.  If you have any questions, ideas or complaints, feel free to contact me at kevin.stevenson@ascension.org.  I wish each of you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Blessed New Year!  Be prepared for a GREAT year!
